On Saturday 10 October, we were lucky enough to attend Balfour Beatty’s Community Crime Prevention & Tool Theft Awareness event in Chafford Hundred. Held at the LTC Compound in Grays, the one-day event was dedicated to helping people protect their property.
Among the organisations involved were Essex Police, the National Business Crime Centre, SelectaDNA, Stolen Tools UK, H&M Security and National Highways. This brought policing and industry knowledge together in one place. And, of course, we were there as well, flying the TVL flag while handing out practical advice on protecting cars, vans and tools alike.
From small business owners to people doing the daily drive to work, most of us rely on a car or a van to make work work, so we walked people through the steps we can all take to make our vehicles harder targets for thieves to hit.
Making specialist advice accessible
It might sound obvious to some, but security can be a difficult thing to assess. Someone may know they want better protection for their vehicle, but unless they already know what that looks like, knowing where to start can be overwhelming.
The event helped people get over that particular hurdle with advice from specialists with very different areas of knowledge. The line-up included crime-prevention guidance and security demonstrations, while the free entry and free parking helped to ensure the day was accessible and open to all the local community.
For us, that matters. Bringing the conversation around vehicle security into a local event gives people somewhere to start asking questions before they have to deal with the realities of life after theft.
It’s one of the reasons we were thrilled to support an event that made room for those different concerns and brought practical expertise to the community – a big “thank you” to Balfour Beatty and the organisations involved for putting the day together and showing up.
And if you’re looking for advice on security for your car, van or commercial fleet, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.
